Taboo?

Ok, here we go...

I have kept Leleupi with Mbuna. I have also kept Calvus with mbuna.
Leleupi will hold their own against the Mbuna, and the only time you will have to worry is if and when a pair of Leleupi bond.
Calvus will take care of any fry, or in others words they will devour all fry born in the tank. I definitely would not, however, put small Calvus with Mbuna. Calvus are very slow movers and will have a tough time competing for food against the Mbuna.
With all of these you can feed NLS pellets (1mm) and be fine.
I had a 72g with Demasoni, Yellow Labs and Leleupi...but all started as out juvies, and the ONLY aggression was the Dems towards each other.

I'm currently keeping Leilupi in a group of 7 in a 6ft (500ltr) tank. I've had no aggression problems in the group. They are extremely peaceful in fact. Most books will tell you to that they can only be kept in pairs but my experience has shown that if the tank is big enough they can be kept in a group.

Again, plenty of books say that they are extremely aggressive to con-specifics. I have a pair of Cylindricus in with them and there is zero aggression. Again I put this down to the tank size.

Many of the books that we read were written well before the days of huge tanks, therefore they do not note the habits of fish in larger tanks.

A friend of mine has a breeding pair of Cylindricus in with Leilupi. No problems at all.

I'm talking form experience (No googling, no outdated books)

i, as usual, agree with mike and pharoh. the comps slow growth would greatly hinder them with mbuna. i have four that i picked up at the begining of the year and have been surprised at how slow their growth actually is even though i was told of it.

In a 120 a male cylindricus killed male of my breeding pair. Of course my cylindricus is the largest I have ever seen. As members they have seen in person. Almost as big a round has a quarter(no fins in that).

Then I had a group of 4 lelepui in 120 after breeding started with pair, they killed the other two.

I also do not need to google it or read an out dated book. My fish.

Everett,

I'll chime in here....I have kept mixed lake tanks for over a decade. My current 125 has all three lakes. Depending on what mbuna you keep in there, they should all get along as long as your aquascaping is has lots of rock work/caves. The only Tang I couldn't keep in a mixed lake tank is the tropheus species....their dietary needs won't work....I do keep my tropheus with some Vics but they are stictly on pure spirulina and OSI veggie.

Good luck and long time no hear....
