I've personally never heard of anyone doing this and since I pick-up about 100-150 feeders at a time. I did'nt even notice that the LFS had put 3 large (2" to 2.5") tadpoles in the bag until they were in my feeder tank. I was just wondering if anyone has used tadpoles has feeders? and if so to what results?

I agree and I wish I did'nt need the feeders anymore but my damn Clown Knife is stuck in his ways. I was able to get both my Oscars and Florida Gar to not even notice when feeders are tossed in anymore.

I used wild tadpoles for some eels, but most of the cichlids didn't like them. I've had some people tell me that b/c it's a baby frog or toad, it might be toxic- I never had trouble with the fish who did eat them.

That is my main concern, since I have no way of discerning the species who's to say wether or not they are toxic

keep em, grow em, see what they turn into-could be exciting. but then could be a disappointment lol

In my exp. the tadpoles that show up in feeders usually grow in to either northern leopard frogs, which are pretty, but more often, they are "pigfrogs" an ugly version of a bullfrog type frog... and they are voracious. They regularly eat any fish that fit into their big fat mouths.

Very few tadpoles of any true size that are found in North America are toxic, A couple toads are but the tadpoles are quite small, I don't think that Bufo marinus is found in Maryland. On the west coast rough skin newt young can be a problem. I used to use bullfrog tadpoles whenever I found them.

Yep had a neighbor who's koi pond would be filled withem during the spring. Leopard frogs basically, so I'd takem' by the bucket full and feedem' to my fish and other animals. I would agree with the assesment that they are more than likely better than feeder fish.
