Tadpoles

Here is an update photo of the toadpoles feeding on a Game Fish Chow pellet. Though they are dwarfed by the pellet, they are almost at the size were I can feed them to my fish. I am going to rescue them from the safety of their tank later today :naughty:

So I guess the tadpoles aren't poisonous? ...

Knock on wood... I dished out a nice helping of tadpoles to my fish that eat them. Since the tadpoles were young I decided to see if my Africans would be interested. Yep, they were...unfortunately. Within ten minutes three of them were dead

It turns out my other fish were drug addicts and weren't going to tell me :irked: My bichirs are fine like nothing happened, but one of my other africans looks like he is having withdraw symptoms. I am not having toadpole addicted fish so I dumped most of them out.

A tree frog was checking out one of the tanks full of tadpoles this afternoon. As I suspected, they are in full force in the pond looking for some love. Hopefully when I get back at the end of the weekend, I will have some frog tadpoles. Btw, the five clutches of eggs were promptly eaten by my goldfish as soon as they hatched. The must have been delicious. (the goldfish won't touch toadpoles).

time for me to split

so i would totally feed these to my turtles.
Do you reckon toadpoles would have any effect on turltes?

I really don't understand your last post....your fish died? Ate 3 tadpoles? You got rid of the tadpoles but you want more? The goldfish ate hatched eggs...but not tadpoles? What hatched out of the egg? The one's with gills? Boy am I confused.

Toad tadpoles can be poisonous, the cane toad, a severe pest species in Australia, is poisonous through out it's entire lifecycle.

Frog tadpoles are fine, excepting the very few poisonous (poison dart frog), but you aren't likley to find that one in your pond unless you live in the amazon :)

I'm not sure how they would affect turtles. My turtles will eat tadpoles like they were candy but I don't remember if I have ever given them toad tadpoles.

Three of my African Cichlids died. All the others are find. Normally they are not that interested in toad tadpoles. They ate some from the last batch without ill effect.

My bichirs have had no problems with the last batch or this batch.

The toads are done breading for now. It is the frogs turn now. They are breeding like crazy and the goldfish are still eating the hatchlings.

I have access to a bunch of tads that are probably going to be Cuban treefrogs. I have a kids pool that I keep outside so my turtles can have a bask for a few hours, and I'm thinking I might dump these tads in. My turtles will love them for sure.

Yeah toad tads are touchy. Lots of fish won't eat them, and I've never had any luck using them for fish bait (bullfrog tads make excellent bass bait IME). Anyway I'm thinking I'll grab the tads...either the turts will eat them all, or they'll metamorphose and I'll have a bunch of bug-eaters around the house (not a bad thing).

I got two new batches of tadpoles last night. And again, those that were laid in the swimming pool have already been eaten. I have a bunch of containers of water put out for the tree frogs. Toads can't get into them (thank God).

These have external gills and must float near the surface for whatever reason (obviously need high oxygen levels). I have tried to transplant them in the past but had a very high mortality rate while they are in the gill stage. The external gills first show up after they evolve from wigglers (all in the first 24 hours). The gills will only last for about a day.
