taft and rainbowfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My Tatf were fine with Giant Danios. Had them in there from the time the tank went up till I added the Gatf (few months). The G ate them all the first few days. The T's never touched them. :(

Yeah, denisonii was what I was referring to. I just worry about finding them at a decent size so the ATF doesn't immediately go after them as food.

You're not kidding about them being more expensive than a normal dither, I saw some huge roselines 5-6" and thick at an LFS nearby and they wanted something like $50-$60 apiece. I've seen smaller ones at Petsmart for $9 apiece (which would absolutely be quarantined by me if it happened), but they're in the 2.5" - 3" range. I doubt very seriously that my GATF would leave them alone at that size.

Thats a good idea!!! And just buy her a bd and she will be happy...

lol if it was just that simple

I have 3 giant danios around 2-3" with my 4" Goliath and mahseers and it's going good. I have observed 0 aggression issues so far. I also contemplated about the rainbows I saw at petsmart. I say give it a try!

To be honest I am not huge fan of the giant danios. They are just not good looking and in this case I know the taft won't school with them. They do make great dithers and they used to be my go to fish. I do have a few spread out between my tanks right now.

Should be fine at least for a good while. I have been thinking about trying a small school of roseline sharks with my GATF while he's still small enough for any chance at it working. I say go for it.

I thought about these guys. They are a little pricey and I like them way too much to put them with my taft. I have a school of 5 larger ones in my planted tank and they are great fish.

I saw a probable couple of rainbow wolves today 7-8 inches, 12 U$ each. I was really tempted but I think about my Crenicichla tapajos...and realy don't think that this could be ok.

Aces don't work well with Taft?

D.

i personally use a flagtail and a large school of geophagus as dithers. i used tinfoils originally and i like the look of those much better. they r a great clean up crew, eating any peices the gatf leaves behind after he smashes his pellets. the geos have also taught my yellowtail cuda to eat pellets too. so they do work as teacher fish as well.

cool. think i am going to try and get some rainbows this weekend.

sorry guys going to put the rainbowfish project on hold. Think I am going to try and sell him. I need some more tank space.
