Gotta tell us how your nitrates drop.

I got roots!

Very interesting. How much pothos do you need for nitrate reduction?

Amount of plant matter needed would vary by tank stocking levels, lighting provided, how much the animals are fed, etc. Pretty much any factor that would ditate maintenance coul be used to calculate how many plants are needed. I'm so super genious, so I don't know the fomulas for how many stems of a pothos are needed at a certain strength of lighting for a certain number of fish at a certain feeding rate in a certain sized tank, etc.

So far it seems that most just plant a few and let them grow like crazy until equilibrium is reached.

Nice that you got some new root growth. Everything is looking good on mine. Nitrate levels aren't climbing as high as they usually do. I am however gonna go back to an idea I originally had. I really have been wanting to do a fun DIY project so I am gonna give this a shot.

Heres a link to the thread in the DIY Filter section...

Will keep you guys updated on my progress. It won't start immediately though. Need to get rid of the 2x HOB's to make room for this project, then have to get an FX5 in their place.

Knifegill:
What type of light are you using to grow the willow branch with? Any branches growing on the willow twig yet? The flask and snow globe how do you keep dose setup? Do they just sit at the bottom of the tank or is there more to it? Also are the leaves on your willow twig pale or light green in color as of when read this?

I can grow willow but I have killed 80% of the houseplants I have gotten.
