I have an essay for class that I am writing on a career that I want to do after college(freshmen now). I want to do something with aquaculture and we have to have a presentation. We can bring in props and I thought what's a better prop than a 6 inch albino tiger oscar.:headbang2

I have some extra glass that i could make a small tank for him. Nothing big just enough that he can move a little. He would be in at least a 70 degree room. What do you all think, I don't want to stress him out too much and have him dying when he's back in his tank.:( I would really like to take him though, but not going to risk his life.

The idea is cool, only problem is stressing the fish too much. meaning, transporting him and all that. Plus temp should be a little higher, 70 is a bit low. How exactly are you gonna transport him and for how long?

If he is a healthy fish then buy a ten gallon tank and take it in that. Use a battery operated air pump to get oxygen to the water. Should be ok as long as it doesn't get too cold. Just be sure to get it to the class and not move it around a lot. Also keep it away from other students who would bother it.

It would be from 8:30 when I netted him to 11:30 when i got back home. I would just put him in the small tank that i would build for him with some extra glass lying around. Make a glass lid and wrap him up in a cloth or something. Start the car up and get it nice and toasty. I know 70 is a bit low but I've kept fish colder, but not willing to risk his life.

if I have to bring in a 10 gallon forget that, I'll just pass then. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible without stressing him out too much. I'm going to keep him on the front desk when I walk in beside the teacher covered up so he isn't freaking out the whole time. Will show the class him and tell how I'm into monster fish and etc. Might mention MFK if Neo will give me a bracelet or a sticker, we will see.:D

yup, ten gallon would be lot easier than building a tank. you can get one for like ten bucks. Portable pumps are at walmart for about 12 bucks. Fish should be fine. My question is what aspect of aquaculture in the US would the oscar fit in? Beside the fact that it is fish, how is it relevent to the scope of your class? Give an idea of what you want your presentation to be about and there might be some more appropriate ideas for props out there.

its worth a try..
my only suggestion is to take pictures to plan on bringing in anyhow
therefore incase something goes wrong.. you have pics to share

good luck

I want to have a career in aquaculture because I have fish. I'm having a whole big paragraph of why i'm into fish and the tanks I have and etc. I was thinking what a better way to show how much I'm into fish then just bringing in a big fish like my oscar.

I have extra caulk and acetone from sealing my 55 last week so making a small tank for the Oscar wouldn't be a big deal really. DIY'ing is fun.

Thats awesome that you are so into the hobby. Is the bulk of your presentation about the hobby? I think it would be neat for your fish to be in the class (I once gave a speech using a betta, and I guess I have also used my 6 month old son as a prop, and a urinal, but that was a different speech).

I remember being in kindergarten (circa 1981). We brought an angel or two in for show and tell. It went down *hugely* well.... but when we brought the fish home and put them back in their tank, our angels had a civil war meltdown.... none survived.
