I bought one once it was similar size. Problem was he didn't live too long . I think its because I bought it from petsmart and they keep them as freshwater. Of course me being me I yelled at them a good bit.

Serafino, I've bought most of my dragon gobies from Petsmart.
You may have gotten a bad one, but all of mine are doing well.

Did you try to instantly move it to brackish?

I had a 14" for over a year in just FW and he was fine with no defects. Only got rid of because i was moving.

One year in fresh water without defects is certainly no reason to think that it's alright. Mine went nearly two years in fresh. Pufferpunk's went for eight years. The point is, violet gobies are very tolerant of different conditions. They have to be because they naturally move between fresh, brackish, and salt water.
