My friend noticed yesterday AM that one of his gachua was holding. He wasnt certain but today he is 100% certain. He fed them and the four other fish ate and he just darted in the plants and hid. He is never skittish. Plus, his "chin" is all buldged out. This is exciting news and all but tomorrow he MUST take the tank down to move. Is there any way to do this with out messing things up?

This is his first experience breeding channa, or pretty much anything for that matter so he is pretty excited and would hate to see it go sour.

Any tips?

to be honest mate , it will either be fine or swallow when moved , no way to know until tried , just be really gentle . good news is ,if they have held now they will do it again and if he swallows you probably will not have to wait very long either , 3/4 weeks.

you could of course strip the male and hatch them out in a home made hatcher but to be honest probably more trouble than its worth ,esp if moving house .

cheers col

Wow, lucky buddy of yours?!!

Ditto, what tropheus said btw. Tell your bud to be gentle and least startling as much as possible during the move. Cover up the tank up with a blanket or so, darkening their environment will easen stress. Like col already mentioned, only way to find out if okay (or not?) is after the move... you just never know?

IMO, I would bypass on the stripping the fry from the male method. just may cause more damage than good, by doing so. I would just wait it out again 'til male is holding again. Probably more safer that way too. Best of luck to your bud!!

Update: The male did end up spitting/swallowing the eggs, my friend actually saw some. He said they were alot smaller then he expected, about the size of a large sand grain and yellow. Today he called me and told that he thinks the male is holding again. His chin is not bulged but he didnt eat today and is hiding again, very atypical behavior that he only exhibited last time he was holding. His question is, is it possible for them to breed again so soon?! They also killed one of their tank mates. He had five and is now down to four. Should he keep the other two in there to created breeding competition or should he remove them and leave the pair and the pair will continue to spawn with out competition?

How big is the tank? If it's a 55 and greater then use a divider if you can get it in there without too much disturbance. If smaller and this pair has tried it together several times and prove to be a couple then carefully remove the rest.
This may sound bad but I kept a couple Clown loachs has dither fish when I has my last breeding pair. I lost one of my best producing female before to an over zealous "husband". And it hard to get a broken couple to breed with another fish.
