Ok I just bought a JD the other day and I had never seen any that looked like this they aren't electric blues but the whole tank looked like the one I got. OK so I got the prettiest but you know what I mean. 2012-04-10 13.51.20.jpg

He won't sit still and it isn't stress he was dark just chillin at the lfs he is SOOOO PRETTY. So what do you guys think he is just a normal JD or a so called dark phase. I don't care either way I like him.

He is completely normal. All jack dempsey's go through color changes in their lives. Especially males, sometimes they turn dark if they are dominate, stressed, pissed off, or in a mating mood.

If all the jack dempseys at the LFS were dark in that tank then they were stressed. It could be from anything but most likely a disease.

alright so do you think he will change and lighten up or stay dark? I like his dark colors I have a couple light fish already and he's quickly becoming a center piece.

He can/will lighten up soon. If you like his dark colors then add a dark back round for your tank and he will stick to being dark. Looks like you have a light back round with light colored sand so he should change to a lighter phase.

It is pretty bright I'll look for a darker back drop.

Thanks for the pic I was starting to second guess that maybe he was stressed or something but if your's is happy and looks just like mine does it seems normal.

Yeah mine is happy as can be, just got through ick but never once did he loose color or stop eating, didn't even seem to phase him or the rest of my fish for that matter. Bur it may also depends what you feed them, once I started feeding frozen blood worms he really darkened up.
