Talk of dark phase JD's

Mine is dark most of the time. He's a grump though

He is completely normal. All jack dempsey's go through color changes in their lives. Especially males, sometimes they turn dark if they are dominate, stressed, pissed off, or in a mating mood.

^^Remember what I said, being dark can be these things as well.

That's what mine looked like many years ago. When buying a Jack always get the darkest one they turn out the best. 5 years and 11inches later mine looks great.

It is dark because it is mating with your firemouth. All cichlids turn dark(er) when they are in a mating mood.

CodyD yours is not breeding.

Mine was dark before introduced with the firemouth, most likely due to the fact he was the dominant one of the tank. Yeah mine is now mating with a firemouth so yes he is darker than usual haha

Yea mines not mating but he isn't that dark either

I think he is competing with my GT for top spot in the tank sad part is he'll probably win and the GT is much larger than him but a big baby.

If you have a GT that's deffinatly what's going on. Mine was about the same color as yours, and now he decided to breed with my firemouth which is wierd and he is very very dark haha
