So my pumpkinseed sunfish is constantly "talking"
but do all fish do that? or is it gasping for air?

Not all fish gasp. What are the Parameters and temp and everything else to get more help...:)

Are you talking about moving it's mouth or actully making sound?
I know my RTC Lucy barks when you take her out of the water for any reason

It's normal unless they're gulping heavily, then it means there's a lack of oxygen or a problem with your water quality. It's just how they respirate. They have to pump water over their gills to get oxygen. In some fish it's more noticeable than others.

lol wolf, just moving his mouth constantly.
water temp is above 78F.

could be water quality then..i have to "cycle" once again...
i think i can't see the other fish do it since they're so small..

what do you mean by heavily though?

Take a look at other fish before posting. Almost all fish move their mouths. This serves to pump water over their gills to facilitate dissolved oxygen uptake.

Your fish will take larger and shorter breathes to get the required oxygen they need. You probably need more surface agitation to increase the DO level. Why would you think that you have to cycle your tank again if water quality is bad?
Fish with superior mouths commonly gasp at the surface if there isnt enough DO.

If the fish is doing that AT THE SERFACE then you might have a problem if not then don't worry about it...

mystix212; he does it at the bottom of the tank...the rate is like our heartbeat.
hmmm maybe i'm thinking that because i got a new filter with loads of bio media in it.lol
superior mouths?

wolf; oh o.k.
