Talking Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
After a big swim or chase, fish will commonly breathe heavier to compensate for the need oxygen. Much the same way humans do after being chased. *Shrugs*.
You say your fish are too small to see thier mouths move. So, they would need to be roughly, under .75"? I can see my .3" convicts move thier mouth.

no it's just that I got a new filter and alot of new bio media...
and i don't think my tank was even established too..

mystix; that's what i thought but then..humans and fish are really different.

Wrong. All vertebrates will experience and increased demand for oxygen after physically exerting itself.

Yes its normal for them to "gasp" a little after feeding, fighting, chasing, etc. They are using thier mouths to draw more water across thier gills to get more oxygen from the water.

Personally I'm sticking to my story that my fish don't "talk" when they are inactive and if your fish do I'd suggest increasing the surface agitation in your tank. But it sounds like others have perfectly sucessful tanks where the fish do "talk" so....
