Voted long but I'm with Bderick, try to find a 150 long which will also be tall. My big tank is a 170 (72"x18"x30" tall) and I love the extra bit of height.

Not a fan of really tall tanks, unless they have huge footprints...but for me a big tank that's under 2' tall just looks out of proportion. Fine for a fishroom, or something specialized like a ray or poly tank, but as a display go for some extra height if you can. Looks better and the volume can only help.

agreed. this would be even better.

its funny though how manufacturers label tanks.

my Aqueon "150 gallon" is 72x18x29.5 tall. which is more than 150g. its more like 165, almost the same as yours.

but they still only call it a 150..works out better though.

they label it as a 150 and they PRICE it as a 150 also!

That is odd. Mine is a local custom tank via craigslist, but Tenecor makes almost an identical tank (right down to the center overflow and less-than-beautiful blue acrylic back wall) that they call a 170.

The best choice is the tallest and deepest tank you can fit in the wall space. Money notwithstanding of course.

I prefer wider tanks so tall gets my vote, The 150 will look better.

I absolutely LOVE 150 tall!!! BUT I also knwo that putting Convicts with anything it is best to go Longer. ;) The options are just MORE.... ;) So... Long.

i was deciding between two tank... either a

72L x 18H x 18W (about a 100 gallon)
or
48Lx24dx30H (about a 150 gallon)

i'll just be putting regular cichlids... like jack dempseys (electric blue if im lucky!! :naughty:), convicts... i don't know what else..
i also wanted to know what yall prefer.. tall or long..

idk how to do a poll.. so yeah! (nevermind, i did it!!)

Ah the age old question of length vs girth.

Length is more important than height or width most of the time. Even though the 150g is 24" wide, you still wouldn't put a 24" fish in it right? It wouldn't have anywhere to swim anyway. Go with the 72" x 18" footprint but go with a taller height. A 135g or 150g would be pretty good. Heck, you'll probably upgrade from there to a 210 or 240 soon after anyway so just get that now.
