has anyone had any success keeping these (Indo Pacific Tarpon) in freshwater? how big have you seen/had them in tanks? any other information would helpful as well

I have had 1 for a year, fresh water, very active, eats all frozen foods( had him eating floating pellets for a while) . Not aggresive at all, but will eat smaller fish

I have 8 tarpon that are all about a foot now. In freshwater with a shoal of mixed common and albino irridescent sharks, spotted and tropical gars, and NGTs. All are fed on aro sticks, dense culture formula crumbles, frozen raw shrimp, FD krill, and the occassional live minnows. It a very active 650gal

Read the 2 posts above, all the info you will need

Id like to know what ph these fish are kept at, and do they adapt to acidic conditions ie 7 and under?:)

thanx for the replies, how well do u think 1 would do in a 195 gal community?

I have mine in alkaline conditions with only a trace amount of salt. I have no idea if they would adapt to acid conditions. They don't occupy acid waters in the wild. You'll have to risk your own fish and $ to find out.
They need a good solid cover since they will shoot to the surface after food and jump from playing "tag" with the others (I call it tag because they'll chase each other at breakneck speeds but, never make contact with each other).
195 comm tank? These guys fill any tank they're in since they'll dart to all areas, all levels. The bigger the better. All tankmates should be near the same size as the tarpon since they won't hesitate to eat smaller fish.

how easy is it to convert these guys back over to fresh? my lfs has a bunch of them but they got them as fresh, but converted them over to salt. would i have to gradually convert them back or could i jus toss them in a freshwater tank? i wish they wouldn't have converted them over to salt...

1 other question, the lfs says they "need" salt water later in life to even live. he said if i kept it in fresh forever they'd die over time? is this even true? i want one so bad n this i the closest lfs that has them in stock but there converted to salt :(

At what size they will start eating aro sticks and frozen raw shrimp? Mine is about 9-10 inches now and still only eat feeders on me. :(
