Thanks my friend no you shouldn't need to leave the lights on that long just a normal 12 hr period and even sometimes less.. The great thing about Anubias Nana is that it is a self attaching plant like Java Ferns really shouldn't plant them into the substrate but you could if you wanted to.. they are a tougher plant and also a bitter tasting plant so most fish and snails do not eat on these which is why they are a great African setup plant.. The Anubias plants are a hardy type plant that can take abuse from larger cichlids and general lighting is most adequate..

I run Coralife compacts with the 50/50 and 10,000K lamps on all of my setups and is what works for me, I also have live snails in all of my setups with sand beds..

At any rate you can poke the plants threw rocks, attach to drift wood or wedge them under rocks and you can bury the rhizome (roots) in the sand but again these plants will take what they need from the water column..

thanks a lot for the info. i went to my LFS and looked at the Anubias. the plant looks pretty cool, bright green which i like. is $12 expensive, i thought it was for the size. how long des it take the plant to get full like yours? im gonna look at another LFS across town and see if they are cheaper. also i was looking around in my junk box today and found a plant light timer, saved my self some money on that i guess. i have 2 seperate light setups so i want to get one more timer that way i can put the fish on a cycle with full light durring the day and moon light at night. does this fish hobby ever level off to were your finally happy with the tank. GEEZ i feel like it never ends. there is always room for improvment isnt there...thanks again

uhm. the 3rd pic.. wat was thaat one called?? yah would i be abl to keep a few in a 10g???
in the third picture there are Frontosa's and a Tetrecanthus. the 5th pic is Black Calvus, they need at least 25 gallon tank to be comfortable. tetracanthus would be fine in a 10 gallon w/ 1 or 2 fish. if you like Tanganyika fish get some shellies. these fish have tons of personallity packed in a small frame. check them out, i think the name is leolamprologus Breavis
