I may get a 29 gallon tank, if I do I think I will move my fish in my current 29 to that (it's a biocube, 19x19x19) tank and the tanganyika cichlids to the biocube, would I be able to get some shell dwellers with some julidochromis dickfeldi or would they fight with eachother because they aren't the same species? Note, I want to use the biocube because it has a sump in it for a heater so it would look better and I am also new to cichlids, I was thinking have argonite as the substrate with some rocks and fake plants in there with a bunch of shells, I'm just worried that a group of shell dwellers in that small of a tank would fight (I was looking at 6) and that having a different species (also 6 julidochromis) would be an issue too

I dont know about that...shell dwellers will take up about 10 in of space for territory. This might cause some issues in a tank with that small of a footprint

You'll need enough room for open sand to divide the Rocky area and shell bed. With a 19" tank you don't have that. Both fish would end up on the others territory causing problems.

ok, would a standard 29 (30x12x18) work? I might just get another julie for my 10 gallon tank, I have one in there now with 4 pea puffers 5 bumblebee gobies and 1 killifish and they are doing great
I think they should be fine because https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/neolamprologus-brevis/ said that the shell dweller can do fine with julidochromis fish because they are rock dwellers, I was thinking in the one corner have a bunch of rocks and stuff for the julies and the rest would be open area for the Brevis

Usually a longer tank is better.
ok, I guess I'll do that, would 6 of each (n. brevis and j. dickfeldi) be fine? , I was thinking get about 40 pounds of aragonite and a bunch of shells and put them in there and have the one side/corner be very rocky and the other side be mostly barren, maybe have some fake plants in there too

In the longer tank, I think the two species would work just be prepared for breeding
