Tanganyika shell dweller biotope?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah they like high PH. Which is what the aragonite sand does. Crushed coral will do the same. I know a guy who keeps tangs in tanks with inert substrate and his do just fine.

What would you recommend if I went with black sand to keep the ph high

Honestly, if you want to keep your PH high, don't use black sand. Use substrate for saltwater, or for African cichilds. Texas holy rock will help, but if you are using a inert substrate, it won't help that much. Aragonite sand, crushed coral, or since you want black, I would try and find some of this http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=8976
Get the sand, or Zack Black.

I got all of my tangs from Blue Grass Aquatics. They have Gold ocellatus for sale. They know their stuff. I would not hesitate to order from them again.

Is the zack black sand? Looking at the thing it's got the same size of gravel but for 20$ I'd buy it just wonder what shipping is

I have no idea what the zack black is. It looks like sand to me, but I've never seen it in a store.

As far as shipping, you can always check that before you buy. Ground shipping to my zip code is $5.99

If you can find a LFS that sells Eco Complete products, it would not hurt to ask if they could order in what you want.

IMO buffering with substrate doen't work. Pool Filter sand is just as good and only cost $10 for a 50 pound bag.

Well since Christmas is coming I will ask for it and try it if it doesn't do anything ,then whatever it's the color I wanted lol now what about the different salts and stuff which brands of it should i use?

No need to use any salt. And substrates do in fact help with the PH. It's not some myth that they help to raise the PH. Like I said there is no reason a inert substarte won't work, but the ones that say they raise the PH, will do just that.

Unless your water comes out of the tap really soft and acidic, don't worry about matching the PH on hardness of Lake Tanganyika. They will do fine if the water is neutral.

^^ +1 unless they are wild caught, they were probably raised on neutral water anyway.
