Okay, so I have been sanding my little fingers away, but with no luck I am here at the forum asking if it really matters. My tank is currently sitting on a stand, but the problem is the tank does not FULLY contact the stand. On the front, 12" from the left and 12" from the right the bottom of the tank trim is not contacting the top of the stand by just over 1/16 of an inch. Should I continue to sand the stand down so that the front of the tank trim fully contacts the stand? If the tank is not full contacting the front of the stand...will the tank eventually in the front bow and put pressure on the joints? It is a 75G MF tank 48" L x 18" D x 20" H....

Help...please...

Thanks,
Kris :nilly:

personally I'd add a layer of foam sheeting between the tank and the stand.
If you have ever watched glass or tile bieng cut then you know why the bottom should always be flat. Any raised (high centered) areas on the stand can and will snap the bottom piece of glass on your tank.

as long as you can squeeze it between your fingers then it will work. If not..then you can always pick up a belt sander.

where could I get foam sheeting or Styrofoam? I have checked Jo Ann Fabrics, Michaels, and both of them have this really really hard unbendable foam....would that work?

Try a Home Depot or Lowes. Get a 4x8 sheet of regular foam house insulation. It comes in 1/2" , 3/4" , and 1" thick. That should do the trick.

The only stupid question is the one you forget to ask...

LOL..but no you don't want to do that because the water will eventually rot the material.

Hmm....guess its time to google Styrofoam and home depot foam house insulation....if you guys have any other thoughts...let me know... Thanks for the quick replies seeing as how I have been sanding for about 2.5 hours now....

I've built..and refurbed quite a few stands in my day. If you weren't on the wrong coast I'd bring my monster belt sander over and help.

go to ur home depot and gethe 4x8 pink foam. 10$ Shouldbe where the insulation rolls are
