Tank and stand...perfection?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would go with the foam to smooth out any uneven areas on the stand.

Hah...if I had a belt sander, I would be dangerous. This foam that everyone is referring to...is it going to have the same problem as said idea with moving blanket.... (i.e. deteriorate and mold)? Isn't that stuff really really squishy? Almost opposite end of spectrum compared to the stiff styrofoam at Michael's.

Nope. It's been used for this for a LOT of years. I just picked up a really unusual 110 gallon tank thats 6 feet long. Fortunatly the stands in great shape but the 60 we picked up the day before was a mess...

Hell, I would have just taken a couple of old worn out t-shirts, cut them into strips, and laid them out as needed.

what i did with mine is that, i put a 1/2 inch. ply wood on the whole area of the stand and then i put styrofoam, normally styrofoam n our place r sold at local book and school supplies stores..

Yay! I found 3/4" styrofoam at Home Depot this morning. Should I put some under my 30G sump? Do you guys put it under your sumps or just your big tanks?

I'm excited...I might actually be able to fill my 2.5 month project and start cycling today!!!

i had the same problem as you with the tank not fully contacting with the stand.. i went out and got a 8'x2' piece of 1" foam and it solved the problem. i had some left so i also cut some for the bottom of my canister filters as you could here a slight vibration. i solved that also with the foam...if you have some left, i would also do the sump, just to be safe. i never used styrofoam under any of my tanks, but i will for now on.
