So as many people know I have a 500 gallon glass tank (8' x 4' x 25"). I've had it for about a year now and I've been watching it about a month, and either the glass has moved just the tiniest bit on one side or my eyes are playing tricks on me.
I'll state now that the center braces are all still extremely sturdy and nothing is wrong with them.
On the left side panel though, where it meets the front, it seems like the silicon is not even anymore. At the top and bottom of the seam it is still smooth to both sides of glass, but if you run your finger up it you can feel the silicon not touching your finger for about eight to ten inches. If you stare at this corner from the front it almost seems like the side panel is about 1 centimeter further out from the front panel in this eight to ten inch span.
My problem is that I can't remember if it has always been like that or if it's a recent thing or a gradual thing. I work on the tank a lot and haven't noticed it get any worse over the last month. The only reason I noticed it at all is because my finger felt the little dip in the silicone when I was working in the sump.
It's such a tiny shift (about 1 cm) and all the silicon is still there, it's just "further in" in this one spot. Glass is tricky on the eyes so I can never tell if I am going crazy or not.
I was just going to add a new layer of silicone over the seam to "fill in" this centimeter, but I wanted to post this thread first.
Please if you don't know anything about this don't just tell me my tank is going to explode, I don't need the stress. I really think it's nothing at all but the tanks own adjustment to the water over the past year. If you know big tanks then tell me what you think.
Michael
PS - I can't take a picture because it doesn't even show up on film, too small to look any different. Also what I see here is really hard to describe, so if you need clarification let me know and I'll try different words.
