Tank Bowing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
can u make a pic to show me what you mean

he's saying make four of what's has pictured then silicone them to the corners of u'r tank to strengthen them.

I've read this reply, but maybe I missed something... did you use aquarium silicon, not clear silicon by GE.. because it does make a difference... on small tanks you might get a way with it, but the aquarium sealant is a lot stronger.. next thing make sure the tank is level.. and I mean totally level.. front to back and side to side... because with that much water weight and that kind of height. If it's not perfectly level you could run into this kind of problem... I had 2 110 highs that were 32" high.. the guy i sold them to. he never leveled them off.. I went over there and these tanks were bowing like crazy, a week later one of the tanks supports (in the middle across the top) cracked... I went over there and the glass was stretched about 2 inches,, I told him if you don't drain it right now, it will on it's own tonight...

so check that out too....

I forgot, was this tank salt water before??/ if so, I hope the person who had it, didn't just drain the salt water out of it, and then leave it dry... biggest mistake.. that salt will dry rot the silicon right out... if that's the case i would just start over... I know it sucks, but better be safe than sorry....

that does sound like a good idea but so does Dr. Joe's, so i dunno i am filling it right now and will take a picture when its full (maybe the silicone wasn't 100% dry last week when i filled it it is pretty thick) and i will take a picture of the gap if my camera can take a clear pic and we will go from there, but one of the 2 of your guys ideas will hopefully work and be added to my tank. (and it wouldn't be so bad to scrap the tank cuz i only spend maybe $150 bucks on it so far and got it for free but come on its 500 Gallons that would be a cool monster tank) thanks for all the help guys i will post some pics in a couple hours

Re-read his post...He has replace the silicone (not that it would dry rot).

awsome thanks a lot

Is this happening at all four corners?

K well i don't know if its as bad as i though, the gap is uniform from top to bottom like the frame is a tiny bit to big, there is no really bowing going on at all, it still has a gap tho the biggest one about the thickness of a nickel, all 3 others a lil smaller. Anyway here is a pic of the gap with a nickel in it.
