had it happen. hard wood floors are fine, water just leaked right through to the basement. the only "disaster" it caused was the loss of my Black ghost knife. satistically speaking I guess now the odds are really against having that happen again (I would like t see the figures of those satistics though )
I had a poorly made sump break once but have had no other problems since. All of my big tanks (over 130g) are used tanks and my 270g tank had its bottom glass shattered by the previous owner (lfs). He had it built into a wall and over time with the building shifting he had the tank bottom shatter. He placed another 1/2" pane of glass siliconed to the bottom and sides and had no problem for the next year until I bought it for $200. I have had no problems with it for the past year. I have over 1200g worth of tanks in my house and I don't worry a bit. If it happens, it happens. I do have insurance that is supposed to cover damages though.
All you guys with your own house have nothing to be worried about. I live in a condo with my girl. Her father owns the condo and doesnt know I live there, not only that but the condo association doesnt allow aquariums much less 6 of them the biggest being 125G .
I compared Aqueon and Perfecto when I bought my 150 and the difference was pretty significant. the Aqueon 150 had thicker glass, tihcker silicone and two cross braces instead of one.
it was a no brainer. The Aqueons are better built, at least on the big sizes.
can't say much about the small ones though. I haven't really compared them directly.
