if i just get a big plastic container , fill it with water (let say 50gal) put amonia in it, then run my fx6, will that work?

Aside from the inputs, I'd get something like seachem prime or equivalent as backup in case your tank doesn't cycle in time. Also get the FW test kit so you have an idea how the tank is progressing in terms of cycling fo know your water parameters.

Getting a new tank is exciting :-)

If it were me, I'd set the filters you are going to run on the new tank, on the one you already have running at the moment. This will give them a jump start on the cycle of the new tank when ready in a few weeks.
And then as soon as you get the new tank filled and ready, transfer them to the new tank.
You could also put any decorations you are going to put in the new tank, in the old one to get some biofilm going.

hello, thank you for your response...
the thing is, will they grow sufficient bacterias in my current 50 gal tank?

now i am thinking to get a big water drum, put my heater, fx6 filters, air stones and start the fishless cycle there by using ammonia in the drum until my tank arrives, what do you think about it?

because my understaning about "tank cycle" is that we are actually cycling our filter, am i correct? please advice.. thank you

so basically we are cyling our filter in the "tank cycle" process.. correct? so frankly speaking i literally can just use ur filter and put it to my aquarium and we call it a day?

please advice
