I have a 72x30x18 aquarium, I would like to keep a silver arowana in it at least for a while and hopefully upgrade within the next few years, I have read in a few threads that arows do not require deep tanks and being 18" deep it is fairly shallow. Do you think that this size of tank would be ok for a silver arowana?

When you state to depth are you refering to the measurement from front to back of the tank or top to bottom of the tank?

Personally, I feel that 18 inches depth is too shallow. Big aro look very cramped in that depth.

Well... maybe I will just stick to cichla, I definately wouldnt keep an aro in an uncomfortable situation and it seems like people have a hard time giving them away when they get larger. Is it the depth that makes it a poor choice? or the length? Do silvers need more than 3x their body length for the legnth of the tank?

well some think its ok to keep in small tanks
and some think they need a huge tank
plain out they are a big fish and just need room
i thought my 8x2x2 would be big enough
but im finding out its not
im going to push the limits a lil but at this rate he will win,and soon

a good thing about that height is that an arowana will not get drop eye coz it doesnt have to look down much.

well...maybe it doesnt get it as fast? me and a friend each bought a juvenile silver aro perfect condition and he put his one in a 2.5 feet tall tank and i put mine in a 18inch temporarily....after the months went by his one had developed DE and mine didnt...plus we were both giving them the exact same food (hikari pellets)
