Tank Divider

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
drill enough holes think be fine. I like the egg crate. wedge with a piece of hose, easy in easy out and no water flow issues. tho I do imagine I can do the same with plexy and just use a wedge the same way.

If you don't need/want line of sight, use some filter foam, it has the added bonus of providing great filtration if you have water flowing through it.

another weekly filter media to clean same as prefitler socks on the intakes. not sure I want to add that to the weekly cleaning schedule, all sponges are weekly, HoB are bi-weekly and canisters every 3 months.

Unless the fish that you are deviding are absolute pigs you shouldn't need to clean them that often. In my tank it has been several months and I there is not a noticeable difference in water level either side of the divider, so don't have to clean it.

jags and Oscars, 145g tank and 180g tank. I understand what you are saying, just not going to work with these guys. IMHO

Yes and no, I have a number of Jag's, oscars, JD, and poly's on one side of the divider, and some grow out cichlids, and poly's on the other side growing out in a 900L. I have to clean the FX6 on the tank ever week almost, but the divider looks dirty, but is not yet impacting on the flow. (Has a fluval 305 and another 300LpH pump taking water from one side to the other).

So I haven't found it a problem in a similar type tank, but then your tank might have even more dirt produced, I don't know, but feel like it won't.

why not run a couple of AC110 to re leave the mech filtration from the canister? HoB lot easier to clean than a canister and with the water turn over well take over the work horse part of the particulates.

leave the major bio filtration to the canister.

I don't like the look of hobs, and find them to be less power efficient them canisters.

Also I don't mind cleaning the canisters, and have found that using a filter sponge as a divider has reduced my maintenance by a lot, and in future I will just be running it as a hamburg matten filter once the need for a divider has stopped.

I have this black catfish that is about 12" long. Does anyone want it. I live in Wyckoff Nj.
What's the best thing to use for a tank divider? I was thinking about using eggcrate before but went to both home depot and lowes and were clueless about what I was talking about.
