tank ethics

Oh, I like complaining, this is my kind of thread .

1. The little tags that they put on the tanks at Petsmart, Petco, and the likes. You know, the kind that give you the "info" on the fish. No wonder people are misled...the one for the oscars said that 30 gallons was the minimum. The one for the clown knife also said 30 gallons minimum.

2. People who refuse to educate themselves on fish keeping. Google is your friend, don't be afraid to use it. And if that fails, try a Barnes and Noble or even a public library.

3. All the morons on youtube that have large fish in small tanks who video tape the poor fish and pride themselves on how "cool" their tanks are.

Seriously, this isn't rocket science. There are basic rules. This can be an expensive hobby. If you aren't willing to invest money...and to continue to invest money, go and buy a pet rock.

It can be a cheap hobby if you have many friends.

This is true...but unfortunately, my friends don't share my affection for fish keeping as I do.

It's funny, when I do water changes (which is at least twice a week) I dump the buckets of water into my back yard. My neighbor sees me doing this and asked me why I clean my tanks so much...she then said that her mother only cleans her tank once a year , so she was shocked to see me doing it so often.

I feel bad for her mom's fish.

people who don't change water frequently enough and employees at Walmart that dont know squat about fish keeping.

I'm no great speller but I really can't stand people who say fishes on a fish forum. Fish is singular and plural. I let our friends from the non predominantly english speaking country's get away with it but if your from the US Canada or the UK you should know that fishes is not a word.

Fishes is an excepted term and widely used through out the english language. In many books you'll see fish used as plural when talking about one species and fishes when reffering to many species at once.

Wow, just read this entire thread. I'm not good enough to keep fish.

Me neither. :nilly: When enough opinions are out there, no one can win.
