Tank for Frank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's a tremendous effort to help a fish. I had a pair that outgrew my 750g. Hopefully yours stays manageable. Good luck.

What is the barb/loach looking fish following tank? I can't quite make it out.

The yellow guy is the 16 year old red tail Tin foil barb named Speedy. I got him and one other named cookie monster on valentines day gift in 1998, from my girl friend at the time, who is now my wife. Speedy is now crooked, and can't swim fast any more. He was 13 when he started to get crooked. Everything I've read says he should have only lived to 10 years old. I had him in the 125 but the clown loaches started to pick on him.

Thanks. Frank appears to love it. The only problem we are having is the end of the tank. He keeps hitting it hard!
I have planted some tall plants to show him the end of the tank, and I put a power cord on the outside to help him recognize the end of his tank. He can literally move from one side to the other in less than a second. Almost wish I could have got something bigger for him and made it a circle.

The bearded cat fish has help too, he likes to hang out upside down it that top left corner.

I think the problem is that he can't see the end of the tank (it looks like an endless lake to him). Mine also slam really hard into the sides. Try taping up some dark construction paper (or anything dark) to the sides of the tank. I think the sides have to be completely covered. I put gel stickers on the sides and tops of my tank, and my pacu still slam into the sides and the tank lids...so cutesy flowers and butterflies don't work. In our new tank, we are going to put backgrounds on the sides of the tank in the hopes that the pacu will notice the walls and turn before hitting the backgrounds. Surely they aren't that stupid or blind that they hit the background.

You've done a beautiful job setting up your tank.

Tank Update. Tank is still going strong. LED Lights never got done. Auto fill has not been completed i still do weekly water changes by back washing to the front yard. I am scared to have something automatically drain and fill my tank everyday. Sadly the fish(Frank) that i built this tank for, died last year. We have no idea what happened. He died in 8 hours. went to work, came home and he was belly up. We did feed a lot of Brazil nuts to him that week. The other Pacu Jessi(ca) is doing fine. She is a plant eater and trasher. I can not keep as many plants as before. I have to be more diligent about the water changes now.
