So I have been throwing around the thought of purchasing a small pool or using my broken hot tub as a fish tank... but price is a HUGE factor, and another is the undeniable fact that my Pacu will reach lengths of 36"+ ....

The hot tub idea seems a little idealistic considering the enormous size of the Pacu's maturaty. Well, today, while on a mission to get some jeans, I parked in front of a pool store. I went inside and saw the pool of my dreams. 8-9 ft diamater, full to the rim, gorgeous, display window in the side. ....wait.....? confusion struck me! why would anyone want a swimming pool thats 5 ft tall, and 8-9 ft in diamater WITH a viewing window? porno films?

the price tag said " 15 ft Aruba Style Pool. $1,200.00." more confusion. I, almost in a sprint, approached the tired looking saleswoman behind the checkout counter and asked her what the deal was. she said "those are only the demo pools." (this, I figured) so I asked "do you sell pools in that actual size?" ..."no" she replied... a little discouraged, I turned around, quickly followed by "but they do sell the demo's at the end of the season. they sold last years models and the years before that to introduce new models." I was very excited. I asked "how much do they sell for?" she answered; "Last year they were all around $250." I was interested. I asked, what was probably a pretty dumb question now that I think about it, "do the pumps and filtration system come with the display model for that price?" surely they do not. but to my surprise, she firmly replied "Yes. Of coarse. For $250, you get everything you see. We need the room for more inventory and new pumps come with every demo kit we set-up for display. Otherwise we would have 20 demo-sized (looked normal to me!) filtration systems all over the place." she chuckled. I got a card. gave them my contacts, and hope to get a call around December!

You guys should look into this at a retail-pool-dealer near you! who wouldnt want a 6000 gallon fishtank for $250?

No, I was looking for my camera in my car and I just got a Blackberry that doesn't have a camera... sorry. the place is located about 20 minutes away so I will try to take some pictures soon but I can make any promises. Pretty busy lately, and its 20 minutes in the wrong direction of town. :irked:

The most detail I can provide is the company is NAMCO (no relations) and the pool was not inflatible, but of stiff construction. either aluminum or resin-material. probably fiberglass.

From their site, I found this image

however they lack the display window I saw today.

I think they can be hidden behind a wall in an unfinished basement, with the display visible in a finished portion of the basement (if that makes sense?) then you could watch the fish, regardless to where the are in the tank.

there appears to be a liner in those images. now I am really confused... how could they have had a window if it was liner material?

window or not. for $250. thats a nice present for a suffering group of oversized fish.

wow, good luck, hope they remember to call you or dont loose your number. I would call them periodically to make sure they knew I was interested. Like once a month and give them a name and number everytime. Soon enough they'll be like its the demo pool guy again, wanting to finally give it to you. :D

Oh I will....

And Something brings up a question, to mind. if there can be water-tight seal's with the filtration system, couldn't something be manufactured to create a water tight seal for glass? don't understand why this isn't possible...

And I live in FL. I'm sure there's a few pool stores around me.:D
Thanks for the tip! I've heard of people successfully sealing glass while using a liner. Not sure how, but I know it has been done.
