tank gone bad

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
could be rapid exposure to higher light. When corals go from one spectrum of light to a much higher specrum, they need to be exsposed slowly, reducing stress. Its not a doubt in my mind that having t5s and compacts is too much for mushrooms and softies of the like. Im still leaning away from calcium being the issue only because soft corals really dont depend on calcium like SPS and some LPS would. it just doesnt seem to fit.

do you have any corals left and what type, were are the corals in relation to the tank, and how long have you had all of these lights on the tank before the problem started.

they looked better for a week before they had problems. I added the light and all of a sudden everything started perking up. today 3 of the zoas higher up in the tank came back and the devil's hand came back and is looking better and it's pretty low in the tank. the xenia is just gone and it was in the middle of the tank. the xenia was getting more light in the store though than I was giving it. it was in a tank with a 250 watt metal halide.

would it be better if I set the timers to have the lights come on a little at a time and shut off one at a time over 2 hours?

also I had some other mushroom in the tank and it's completely gone just like gone. all that's left of it is the base. the rest of it just deteriorated and shrivelled up. I checked my parameters today and I had 3ppm nitrate, so I have some salt water that I am letting sit for a few hours and I am gonna change 33 percent.
