Tank has spontaneously created life.

They are itty bitty tiny little green bugs, right? I had them once during the summer. DONT open your windows, this is the best way to prevent them. Especially dont open them at night because the light attracts the bugs to the water. Also, I filled mytank with really hot water. Mix it in the gravel. The larvae of these bugs (whatever they are) are in the gravel, and come to the top when mature. The hot water did it for me, but you have to make sure they dont reinfest.

Thanks for that info blaua. I could definitely look into steaming them out. They appeared just at the end of summer, but my tanks are nowhere near any windows. Plus all lights are off well before sunset (during the summer). Anywho, I will be giving this a shot.

To all the rest, these are not mosquitoes, there's not a single one in the house. Also they don't sit on the surface of the water. They stay on the underside of the glass canopy.

Got the same little green bugs today; best I can tell they are just gnats sp. Took about 50% of the water out and vacuumed the gravel, took the canopys off and cleaned them (just water), as well as the underside of the tank rim and braces.

Are you still fighting them?

The only thing I can think of is that they came in on a plant that I had near my main tank. If they had just flown in from outside or the drain then they should also be in my growout and Angel tank as well. I cleaned them up this morning and haven't noticed any since (hopefully I solved the problem) but I guess I will just keep an eye out over the next few days.

If you ended up solving the problem, let us know what worked for ya.
