Figured on building sump myself. Cost would be negligible. Don't need much lighting, again low cost. Biggest issue would be cost of pump to do an adequate job. The next issue would be cleaning the tank of red algae deposits. Can make the room, just trying to convince the other half that it would be a good idea. Don't suggest getting rid of some of the smaller tanks, she doesn't really buy that one.

$95 from Big Al's, Quiet One 6000 (1,500 gph at 0 head).

A sump would only cost as much as a used 90g or 125g, maybe $150 tops plus a couple of pieces of glass from Home Depot. Cleaning is just elbow grease and is free. You could certainly have it up and running with everything but fish for less than $400 over the cost of the tank/stand and probably much less if you shop smart.

Again, why haven't you bought this yet?:D

I had a similar conversation with my wife. I told her it was a invstment and that I could sell it for a profit. As your as your taking food out of your kids mouth to pay for it . The only thing you will regret is someone else buying it while your procrastinating. Life is short -Just do it.

well I recently went through this convincing stage and have decided that there is only one way to win in this battle

just buy the tank she might be pissed for a week or month but she will get over it and you will have a tank

Couldn't have said it better myself.:D

heheheh if you have the money do it...

as for the sump.... theres no reason it needs to be glass.. nothing wrong with rubbermaid tubs.... egg crate, zipties, pot scrubbies/swampcooler pads, some pvc... for that yer under $100...
then the pump of yer choice and some cleaning products....
