i have a forty gallon tank that i got about a week ago and i cleaned it and cycled it and it was good then i put my fish in and about 3 hours later the water got cloudy does any one know what was wrong and how i can fix it
 
you "cleaned" it? how so? how many fish did you put in? did you put rock and substrate in along with the fish?

I'm wondering the same thing... Anyways, seeing as how your tank hasn't fully cycled yet, adding in fish will dramatically increase the bio-load, and in turn causing the water to cloud from a bacteria bloom. Did you thoroughly clean the substrate before putting it in the water? The cloudiness will usually go away within a week, but may take longer since your tank/system needs to re-establish itself.
 
Man if you're cycling tanks in a week you gotta let us in on the secret. :ROFL:

What are your water params? Did you use existing bio media? How many fish and what kind/sizes? Also the substrate question above. ^
