Tank in a Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The plexiglass sounds good, and I am looking for ways to keep the larger fish from pushing their way in and snacking on a whim. But I'm thinking more of an overgrown rock structure since I'm going to make it look like a cave underneath. Think of that dinosaur utopia that just happened to survive all these years because it was in a sleeping volcano crator. Or a small pool that is seperated from the rest of the ocean by a ridge.

The more I'm thinking of using plants, the harder concepts are becoming... but a HUGE (fake) boulder may just do the trick.

Though, I may just end up with a plexiglass tank in the end... (NO, NOT AGAIN!)

This is a very cool idea. It really beats having 2 tanks for the different fish! I've been trying to figure out how i can do the same when my silver tipped get larger. I'd like to have more than just the 2 of them in one tank. But deffinetly keep us all up to date on your plans.

OoOo I can see it now ... have a tank with oscars (fresh) or grouper (salt) then a lil tank inside with petrified lil feeder fish ahahaahahaha brilliant!

:naughty:

You got it FishDude, make no mistake about it. If and when those mollies start over-populating that little section, the surplus will be released into the rest of the tank for, consumption.

You've read the post, I'm looking to make the ultimate brackish aquarium in a mega tank. Okay, maybe not mega mega, but 180 - 240 gallons of water.

My concept is this. In nature, you have your predators and prey living in the same water conditions, but with diverse survival biotypes. I am going to try to replicate that in my tank by placing "barriers" within the tank to keep the two brackish species seperate.

The idea is to have a heavily planted UPPER corner section where the mollies can frolic in the foliage. This corner set up on top of a cavernous rock structure that will reach near the top of the tank and will have a flat surface where I can create false bottom. The barrier from that corner to the rest of the tank is not determined, but I'm thinking.

The cave is for the eels and the Datnoids hiding pleasure, while the rest of the tank will have open swimming areas surrounded with plenty of mangrove roots for the scats, monos and dogface (or some PEACEFUL) puffer.

I'm thinking on methods of filtration and circulation because the mollie corner cannot move as rough as the rest of the tank of course. I'll post pictures of my ideas later.

cool. I didn't know mollies were brackish
