Ok, this is the visual of what I want to accomplish. This is why I posted the "Making Rocks" post. But before I share the picture, let me explain what I wanted to do and why it turned out this way.

I wanted to keep several types of fish in one biotype. The problem was that the smaller mollies would be consumed by the eels, datnoids and other larger brackish fish. So I wanted to build a tank in a tank. The plan included some type of natural (or natural looking) barrier that would prevent the large-uns from free snacking.

I had several ideas including a massive overgrown rock structure, then I wanted to focus on the wood idea. So what I have invented basically is a tank divider, just prettier than the green plastic one.

So without further delay I present... http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=25079&stc=1

Sorry I didn't know how to add it directly to this post. But you get the idea. Now I will be practicing and honing my skills to make foam and cement look like wood and mangrove roots.

I stand corrected. The picture did post, now I need to figure how to resize before uploading.

i take it the divider is on the left. eels will probably still find a way to slither over, just so you know. this is a very cool idea though

Yes the divider is on the left. The picture didn't come out as well as I wanted, but the idea is that the divider will actually be higher than the water level and will reach the top of the tank.

I know I'll have to have plenty of small holes to allow the water to move in and out freely. There are many kinks I have to work out if this is going to work with the minimal amount of maintenance. But this is the 4th version of the initial idea I had.

I'm taking into consideration keeping ALL of the unwanted predators out while keeping all of the smallest of fish in. I'm also thinking of correct materials to use because I cannot afford to have water back-up at all. So this material will have to be able to "breath".

a sponge of sorts? i duno if that would be any good though, i was thinking of doing a similar thing but a turtle/fish rather than small and predatory

I have a Moray eel, trust me you would be suprised as to where they can get to, I have a completley sealed 90 gallon and more than once i have walked by to see him on top of the cover looking at me. they can pretty much do what they want no matter what you do, at least that has been the way my eel is........nice idea and good luck.
