I live in Indiana and would it be ok if i put a tank in front of a window....its a 55gallon and i have no where else to put it. If i were to double up heaters in the winter would it be safe temp wise.
Put a background on the back and maybe the sides or you'll have algae problems.
I wouldn't worry about doubling the heaters.
In the summer, if you plan on keeping the curtains open on that window, the tank may get too hot with the sun beating down on it.
Alright, What should i do to prevent it from gettin to hot in the summer? I dont want to put alot of money into a cooling system since I'm only 17. I have a job but only part time so i dont have tons of $$$.
Hard to say. If the window is on the North or East side of the house it shouldn't be much of a problem, the South and West sides are where you'll get the hot mid-day and afternoon sun. A fan blowing across the water surface would help but could also be kind of a pain.
Any chance of rearranging the furniture to make a more suitable spot? I've gotten rid of furniture entirely to make room for a tank, in fact I'm considering buying a bigger house!
The window is on the south side of the house. There is no way my parents would go for rearranging the front room. Its going in the front room due to the fact my dad dont want that much water on a upper level. Its a hard enough time talking him into this tank let alone rearranging the front room. I told when i first got a tank all i wantd was a 10 gallon...lol So its gonna be tough talking him into this but i got my mom already and maybe shell back me up.
Moms rock!
Go ahead and do it man, just keep an eye on the temp., if it becomes a problem there's always a way to fix it.
Words of advice: be serious about your tank. Keep it clean and healthy. That way even your Dad may learn to love it and the next thing you know, he's knocking walls down for a 750 gallon!
Good luck and keep us posted on the progress.
I would definately not put the tank in front of a window. I had my 55 gallon in front of my south facing window and I constantly, meaning everyday scrape the algae from my tank. I had a background on it also and I still had major problems with algae. So I would not recommend putting the tank in front of a window.
LOL
i'd just recommend not letting too much sun hit it by covering it some how...........i had a tank in my one window and moved it cuz there was soooo much algae.......good luck though.........
