I have never used copper. If you ask me it's second only to Bleach.
It works by poisoning everything, with the idea that you remove it
before the 'strongest' (hopefully the fish) are killed too.

I disagree. Unless you dealt with salt-resistant strains of ich, salt should destroy the ich. If you dealt with salt-resistant strains of ich, you still have another alternative formalin, malachite green or both. That does not make copper as the only one that really kills ich.

Note: Salt and formalin do NOT mix.
