I've heard that. Some one on the Madagascar and African river cichlid section of he forums was saying his butti was the same way.

In some species the amount of daylight as well as water temperature has a triggering effect on the sexual maturity of the fish. I suspect a tropical fish not as much seeing as the days light stay relatively the same.
