That was the noise that awoke me this morning and a puff of smoke coming from my fishtank it was my light self destructing! I bought the tank and light 2nd hand and the guy before me had cut the wire for the light so he could thread the wire through the hole at the back because the plug was too big. so i had rewired it and wrapped it in near enough a whole role of wire tape thinking that would be enough......guess it wasnt. now i do have a spare bulb but i have yet to test the light itself but before i do that is there anyway of stopping the condensation forming on the light so im not woken up again with another blown bulb

welcome to mfk do you have a evaperation lid on the tank if you don't get one quick or make one at least cover the part below the light..

hey welcome to M.F.K ...

like fishnutham said do you have a full cover/lid or none ??? if none you need to make some thing or buy one to cover your bulb , glass is a pain to remove from the aquarium . trust me I've had a few broken thermometer's in my day ... also the white film on the bulb is called zeenone and is toxic if ingested... :D

Well closer inspection the light is nackared!! so looks like im gonna have to go and buy a new one :( i have created a clear plastic cover using the bags i got my fish in! i knew they would come in handy!! seems to be collecting the condensation nicely.

thanks

I had a full lid for my tank

with nothin between the light and water

I would go to the closest hardware store and pick up some acrylic to cover the tank (like youre doing with the plastic).

What are the dimensions of the tank?

WOW!!! :WHOA: very very nice tank .....

that is weird that there is nothing between the lightbulb and water ..

A small bit of plexi glass will do the trick...

are you from england or the u.s ??? just coriuos ... :D
