Tank maintenance

There is nothing on the market that will protect you from getting nailed by a stingray. Care is part of owning them. Just be aware of what you are doing.

lol, even then.... metal rusts, oiled joints leech, and you can still get tagged if it hits between :P

seriously ingrda, be respectful, slow and purposeful, and aware and you shouldn't have any problems. how do you think ppl get to the point of handfeeding and petting their rays? it takes time, effort, and respect. never rush.

get a scrubber on the end of a stick.. This way you dont have to worry.
But in my honost opinion, the more the rays see you, the better it is. They will get use to you being in the tank and will not get spooked as easy..
Mine see me doing cleaning or whatever and they just hang out next to me or swim the other way..

The caps are small pieces of tubing typically placed on the stinger during shipping to protect the bag from getting punctured. It's not recommended as it can irritate the skin covering the stinger causing an infection. I've had to cut an infected stinger off my female and trust me it's no fun. My stingrays only tried to sting me once each. It was when I first got them and tried to pet them (very dumb on my part as they were stressed and scared from being bagged and moved). I used to handfeed my rays and once they got used to my hand, they never even attempted to tag me. They now swim up to my hand looking for food. I wouldn't worry too much about being stung. If you're worried, just be patient and wait for the ray to move before cleaning the area.

One of my rays threatened like a scorpion once on an early water change but has never done it again. If you have sand then they will bury first. A sting is the last option and I have not heard of anyone on here being stung before.
