does this mean i can try and add in a male regular non-hybrid cichlid?

which cichlids make up a blood parrot?

i would love to try and breed cichlids but which fish do i need

technically yes, assuming the parrot would tolerate the new intruder. ive heard severums will breed with parrots, but i havent seen any of these hybrids yet.

i think you could be right about the oscar though... i think i read somewhere on MFK that they need 50-75G each... but read up on it incase im' wrong (usually the case:)), just to be sure.

have you thought about any other types of fish for tankmates, or do you have your mind set on cichlids?

you could try things like silver dollars... i current ly have 1 with my sens and oscar. i did have 4, but they had been in my mates tank for 4-5 years, and then another 2-3 in my tank, so they was gettin old.

i will get more for my new tank, as they are a shoal fish, thinkin maybe 4-5. i have more room now as my bumble bee cat died:( , and now my o looks like it has excess slime or fungus... its not a good week... but i get to move in to my new house on saturday, so i'll quarrentine him in a bucket or something, during the move.

oh... one more thing... did you think of adding more polypterus?:)

yea i looked into the silver dollars but not really my thing, i had heard that bichirs didnt get along with other bichirs unless in a large tank, is 55 big enough for two senegalus?

well yea im not gonna try and breed cichlids in this tank, decided on that.

so i was looking around and found a black blood parrot, not dyed black but actually naturally black, kinda has the coloring of a dark severum without the bright blue on it. so it seems to be getting along rather well.

so far i have,

1 senegalus bichir
1 gibby pleco
1 blood parrot
1 new blood parrot (ill try and get a good pic to get ID'd)
and im thinking of adding a.
synodontis eurptis(sp?) a featherfin cat.
another senegalus bichir (if you guys think it would work it would be aweomse, or well watever kind of polyterus would work best i just assumed senegal cus its really calm poly)

i know its alot of bioload but i do have plans for a larger tank and i am commited to doing large water change often and it has a tetra 60 and penquin 200b filter on it so its over filtered. but do you think they would get along?

The fetherfin should be fine, watch that pleco and as for polys not getting along ..... occasionally you get a bully but I have seen picts of 3-5 sens, dehlz, palmus, polli and/or ornates in a pile and get along just fine just keep them close in size. and stay away from the lower jaw polys in this tank as they get big and your sen will get eaten

ok cool yea my new parrot is doing good eating fine and im still on the look out for a nice syno large enough for the tank, only ones i can find are at petsmart and only like 1" long so i think theyd prob get their buts kicked in thet tank. so all im looking for now is a,
syno, eurptis (sp?)
palmas bichir

and then my tank will be complete and i will start working towards either my large reed tank or a predator tank of somekind maybe a 100+ gallon cichlid tank might be cool

yea ive been keeping an eye on him, so far he is really calm and just swims right by and lets everything go, plus i do keep him very well fed with zuchinni and algae waffers
