tank mate help, please

personally i think with 2 ebjd that you could only add schooling fish or bottom dwellers but not any more cichlids if the tank is only a 55g, that is way to small for 3 fish that get 8-10in IMO, of course most likely the ebjd will not get along once mature (unless they are a pair) and then i think you could get away with 1 ebjd and 1 severum but you would really have to keep up on water changes to keep things pristine

maybe soem convicts or green terrors or fire mouths.

I don't think any of those suggestions are very good for an EBJD.
Convicts become way too aggressive for an EBJD.
Firemouths are not as aggressive but are territorial and will beat up on fish that enter it's domain.
The iridescent scales of both a GT and EBJD are similar enough it might upset the GT. GTs are usually not very aggressive but generally will not tolerate fish that look anything remotely like themselves.

I really think that a severum is probably the best bet for a tankmate.

i agree, i think all of those would be too much for a ebjd unless it was over 6in and they were added as a small juvie, but even then i think severum or angels would be your best bet (just not a breeding pair)
