tank mate questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
damn should this be on the newbee forum ;)

I think the tetra should leave him alone. & I agree that a school of tetra like bleeding hearts, flame tetra, black phantom tetra, or any other tetra except exodons and any other tetra that are more aggressive--would look great and be excellent tankmates. Not so sure about neon tetra and cardinal tetra though...they're small and could be costly snacks. :D

You could also try an orange parrot cichlid, a severum, or a festivum...most get along great with other fish and are pretty peaceful. Their temperament (for the most part) can be compared to that of a discus or angel fish.

I wouldn't try a salvini...that is a bad suggestion IMO. They can be territorial and intolerant. They can also become very aggressive when in "breeding mode". Yes, some salvini's may get along with the black convict, but chances are that any salvini you get won't get along with the black convict.

i agree salvinis for the most part will be very aggressive! beautiful but mean. Tiger barbs can be fin nippers unless in a big group of like 8 or more..Go with some larger tetras , giant danios , rainbows or some of the passive cichlids like severums, parrots, festivums.

i just think he needs some different company.. ok i put the pink tetra in the other tank so maybe i could get a female jack dempsey? (still getting the tank divider for snails) should i get the jd 3" grown?

ok its gonna take me a bit to look up all these fish (like the red severum so far)

the dempsey should be ok at 3 inchs but could be 8 inch full grown for female 10 inch for male.Jacks do tend to hide alot of the time. The severums are a good tempered active fish but will also get about 8 inches or so.A firemouth may also get along with the convict.

A fully grown Jack Dempsey may eat your tetra.... especially since he is on his own and there is no schooling.

If you really want the con to be the centerpiece of the tank, get a school of tetra and leave the other cichlids out.

tetra is out.. idk what to do with it.. lmao its in a 55 gallon with baby cons.. til they get bigger lol
