Tank mate suggestions for severum 75g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Keyholes would be a good addition if they don't end up being shy. The keyholes I had were great from their baby 1" size until they hit about 3". Then they stayed in hiding all the time. I never saw them.

My personal preference would be the same as Darth Pike's. Add some rams or dwarf acaras. Just make sure to provide them with a couple of heavily planted sections with small ornaments (I prefer clay terra cotta pots) that only they can hide in, just in case the severum decides to chase them.

If you can find true blue acaras that haven't been hybridized with green terrors, they only reach 5-6" and would work very well.

I think I'm going to do some larger body tetras. I'm also thinking about a pictus or Raphael cat or some type of pleco. I will look into the keynotes, what about rainbow cichlids?

Rainbows (A. multispinosus) will definitely work, but they breed easily and frequently which could lead to aggression. I raised out my group with severum juveniles of the same size and had no issues until the rainbows were spawning age. Then I had to divide them all up because chaos broke out in the 55 I had them in.

Ended up with a small school of small 1.5-2" clown loaches and am waiting for a dozen buenos aires tetras and a dozen congo tetras to come in. Within the year they will all be transferred to a six foot 180. So far so good the loaches are super active and it's making the severum more comfortable.

Loaches are a lot of fun. Their activity is usually hit or miss for other fish. Either it scares other fish even more or it makes them more comfortable. Glad it is working for you. :)

My Super Reds are in with 2 large Angels, 2 Large Silver Dollars, a pair of 5" Rainbow Sharks, 2 4" Red Tailed Sharks, a 4" Bumble Bee Cat and 2 4" Pictus Cats. Everyone gets along great, it's fun and relaxing to watch.

im glad you went with a species of loach. theyre so much fun.

Hopefully ordering my 3 schools of tetra's Friday, I decided on congo, diamond, and columbian red and blue tetra's.

Great, the Diamond and Columbians are among my favorite Tetras. The best of luck with them.
