tank mates? and tank size for EJD electric blue jack dempsey

55 is PLENTY of space for the EBJD alone but that will not be enough space with another large fish in there.

JDs are plenty aggressive themselves, I wouldnt worry so much as to what species it is compatible with, I'd be focusing on making sure tankmates aren't significantly larger to start. A JD will hold its own with about anything once it grows some. Mine (9" and about 6 yrs old) lives with 4 turtles and runs the show, he has for 5 years. (That all being said, I am assuming the EBJD's behavior would not be different from a standard JD, i've never owned an EBJD)

EBJD are very different in behavior surprisingly. Mine is very timid, and i've heard from lots of others they are timid. I had mine living with some bitesize tetras that he completely ignored while in growout. Couldn't even get it to eat some ghost shrimp I gave it as a treat. In the end though, personality could vary by fish.

a 55 isn't very large for an EBJD and another fish that has the potential to grow 10"s+. I would just keep the EBJD by itself. They do very well by themselves....now if this is just a grow out tank, then that's a different story...
I agree

A small group of smaller geos, a firemourh or sajica would work fine for cichlids. Mine is in the 6-7 inch range and helps to keep my Mollie population under control, I also learned the hard way that he loves lemon tetras.
