somwhere
I finally convinced my brother to get his betta out of the bowl he had it in an we put it in one of my spare 10s. What are some good tank mates? I honestly have no clue...never dealed with bettas.

i have my betta with some neon tetras and ghost shrimp. no fighting wut so ever

dont put a male betta in with any fancy guppies or any at all, i had one and it tried to eat the feeder guppies and attacked the fancies. probably because one male had red colors on his fins and because they have long fins almost like a betta, he attacked my best looking male guppy and his tail had almost like bald spots on it  but i took him out and let him have his own 1 gallon.

Throw up a divider and get another male. OR get a female (still need the divider, males are quite mean when they want to spawn) and let them spawn.

I have it with a feeder goldfish that I have had for a month and the betta likes to flare his gills and chase the goldfish around..is it bad?

I have had my male betta in with my common goldfish which are about 6" long now for about 6 months in a 30 gallon tank. They dont bother each other at all. The betta actually eats the goldfish food which saves me on buying betta food.:woot: :woot: :woot:

You can keep it with anything that doesn't have long fins that resemble a betta (i.e. fancy guppy) or any thing that doesn't like to nip fins. I would do like 5-6 small tetras (same species, I'd go with black neons), 3 pygmy or panda (stay smaller) cories, and 2-3 otos. If you get duller colored fish the betta's colors will be more intensified.

They're pretty good community fish. Just keep them away from Angels, Barbs, and fast moving fish like danios. Bettas tend to get their fins nipped by other fish like these. Some peaceful tetras, catfish, and dwarf gouramis would be fine.

I keep all of my bettas alone in 5.5g tanks so I can't really say much about tankmates. My only suggestion (if you use a filter) is to keep the water still or atleast free of too much movement. :)

ive had a male betta in my planted 20G high for a few months, and havent had any problems yet.

he's in with:

4 red rasboras
3 black khuli loaches
1 black red-tailed shark
1 common plec
1 ghost shrimp

the plants also probably help, as they give a bit of hiding areas, occasionally the betta will chase the rasboras or the shark will chase the betta, but they havent actually done anything to each other.
