I have absolutely ZILCH knowledge of fish and aquariums,

I am looking to buy a fish for a special person who just lost a peacock bass after more than 2 years. The bass's tank mate was an arowana. I think a black arowana if im not mistaken.

So, now I am looking to buy a new mate for the tank. I visited a tropical aquarium and the man suggested a geo jurupari and "stenie", which seemed a bit small to me, I mean the Bass was at least 20 inches, and the arowana is about 12 or 13. these fish he suggested couldn't be more than 4 or 5 inches!

So, my question is, should I go ahead with the geo fish, or does anyone have a better suggestion? I was looking to spend 100 maybe 120. The man at the aquarium is charging me 80 for both geo fish, and I could be wrong, but I swear I've seen those geo fish at regular pet store aquariums. Am i being taken? I live in Long Island, NY if this helps.

Any replies will be greatly appreciated, thank you

datnoids,stingrays,bichirs,and geos seem overpriced

How big is the tank? The tank dimensions will have alot to do with getting the right fish.

I agree. Tank size will have a lot to decide what you can put in with the Arowana. Blacks are also one of the more peaceful arowanas, and one of the most beautiful, so you have a good choice of tank mates you can place with it.

i have a follow up question can i pick a tankmate with the same length of my arow will that help not to kill each other?
