No need to get a 40 gallon breeder just put them straight in the 6ft tank! And you should be able to fit more clown loaches in your 6ft!

I have 5 Clowns in my 125, and my only regret is not putting 10-20 from the very start. I've had Vieja and Amphs in there with them, they don't care. Clowns are the smartest fish in the tank by far--way far. They're tough and fast, never a tattered fin, and they steal food at will.

Mine like lettuce a lot, but I've never seen them chew plants.

Do you think a 125 would be sufficient for a group of 5 clown loaches for life?

If you only have 5 clowns a 125 would be fine. They really like the length so a 6' or more tank is best. However, I find clowns are kind of like potato chips. It's hard to not to keep adding more. I think clowns personality comes out more when you have a minimum group of 7 or more.
