maybe a jack dempsey? they don't take crap from nobody!

or, go extreme and get a jag cichlid? don't get much meaner than those guys...

other than that, the obvious would be some sort of "armored" catfish.

"maybe a jack dempsey? they don't take crap from nobody!" maybe yours dont or havent but mine get beat up in my 55g by my 2" and 4" convicts. The JD's hide from them in a corner pretty much all day, Im hoping one of these days they'll put the con pair in their place and show them up but so far they just run to the other side..

Actually I didn't think about putting the bicher into the 90, they are starting to get some size to them so that just might work! I may just have to try that. Of course I have to get hubby to agree with that, those bicher are his fish as is the 29 gallon planted tank, the 90 is mine lol. Thank you for the ideas!

okay no reason to be rude, I know a red devil or dovii or something like that wouldn't work being even though this oscar is very mean and aggressive they have relatively low jaw strength and "soft lips" vs. a red devils very powerful jaw strength and strong lips and larger teeth. I definately don't want this oscar killed, I would simply get rid of him to a good home if I didn't want him around.

just because someone has an oscar doesn't make them "less" of a fish keeper then someone that has a red devil or other extremely large aggressive fish. My husband and I have been in this hobby for over 15 years and used to have many absolutely huge fish. We have had a 31" arrowana, a 28" clown knife, a 26" marble sailfin catfish, a huge male midas with huge nuchial hump, a 30" tiger shovelnose cat, a 12" male bifasciatus, very large tiger datnoids, a 28" fire eel that we used to handfeed ghost shrimp, etc. I was simply looking for a good suggestion as to what to possibly put in with this oscar that happens to be much more aggressive then the typical oscar especially as his small size. Thank you all for the suggestions, they are much appreciated!

yeah i would be very careful with the bichir though, what types do you have? unless they are a larger growing spp that is already too large to be considered food i wouldnt risk adding it right now with the O being that aggressive, Bichirs are pretty worm like and if its not big enough all the armor in the world wont keep it from getting swallowed and as you know Os have pretty huge mouths (and stomachs! lol) but yeah i would try the carpintis idea if you can find a large male, i would totally rearrange the tank and then put in a divider to keep them separated for a few days and let the carpintis settle in and then see how it goes from there, and the carpintis blues should show up really gorgeous over that black gravel :)

Fish do have different personalities. I have a Midas who is totally mellow and is one of the least aggressive fish Ive ever had.

At what temp is the oscar being kept? have you tried to reduce it a bit? This can sometimes help with aggression.

They are just an ornate and a senegal, both are currently about 7-8" long. Not sure hubby will let me put them into my tank anyway though, they are his babies lol. I may just wait a bit and continue my search for a polleni or bleekeri, we had two of them many years ago and even though they seemed rather shy around us, they held their territories with other fish so it may work, may have to try the divider at first to see what happens. I know they wouldn't show up the best with my black gravel but I just love that fish.... can't seem to find them anymore though, the one's we had years ago we bought when they were only 2" and they were like $20 each, now I can't find any :(

Smartass, I don't think the op wants his Oscar to get killed.

Er, I misinterpreted then perhaps.

But, it sounds like the op wants a challenge...notice the added "EVIL" and that the bichir may be big enough....for challenge perhaps, lol
