I have a pleco already. Does anyone have any suggestions for tank mates with an gold Australian arowana?

no duh jardini, jardini sometimes have a lil gold

its a jar it has mainly gold coloration with blue on its fins. well i have the arowana in his own 55 gallon right now and i am transferring to a 125 or 180 gallon after he hits 5 inches or 6 inches.i got a suggestion for tank mates at a fish store with very large aggressive fish. They told me 2 to 1 silver aros over austrilian aros because austrilian aros are very aggressive towards other fish. and any catfish would be fine and plecos of course. they pretty much told me if it can't fit in it's mouth you will be okay.

I know these fish probably do not mix and it has not been attempted but what do you guys think about an austrilian arowana and here are two ideas im thinking about.

1) two silver arows or black arrows, a red tail cat, pleco or plecos and maybe a pacu or some piranhas. just throwing some ideas out there. obviously i do not want the fish to kill one another. Just let me know what you guys think.

2) an goliath african tiger fish, a ray or some other bottom feeder maybe an aba knife.

3) honestly i am thinking about having fish at the top, middle, and bottom, any suggestions I would love to hear them. I already have the austrilian arowana and a pleco.

also thinking of alligator gar or something like that

1)your 180 is pretty much going to only fit your jar when its fully grown. Even one more grown silver or black wont fit in it. Pacu or a RTC might be a good idea. If you use common sense you would not have even suggested a piranha:screwy:

2)Again, if you used common sense you would not have even suggested a tiger fish:screwy:. A ray would be ripped to shreds by your jar.

3)giant gouramis, oscars, peacock bass, clown knives, tiger shovelnoses, also the RTC or pacu you suggested above. Seriously, i advise you to just keep your jar with your pleco and keep it at that. You can't keep any of the listed fish anyways once they all grow up.

PS: if you didnt know, theres a whole sticky on jar tankmates! It might be a smart idea to read stickies, they were made to be read...

the fish are agro once they hit 12" they go crazy and blue fins are u sure there not a blackish color. none of the fish u have said will live in a 180 for life u might get away with the one u got in now but it will kill all the other fish. all i can say is put some of the smaler sized cats like synodontis and have a lot fo lower rocks and caves for them to excape to.

thanks guys/girls i didnt know there was a thread with that info. i have only have two silvers and don't know that much about jar thanks alot

ur gona upgrade in like a year right? if u do u could get some rays to grow out the the silvers till u get a bigger tank for both of them if u get rid of the pleco.
