So way back in the day my first love for fish came from my knife fish. However I've since come to love SA/CA cichlids. Question is, in the future, are there any types of knife fish that will do well with medium to large SA/CA cichlids? If so, how?
Hi... Yea there are. Look into the gymnotus knives. They have a tendency to be aggressive at times but that should do no harm to the bigger SA cichlids. Look at Carapos they are cheaper and easier to find. Or if you can find a place that has TRUE tiger Knifefish.(gymnotus tigre ). If the price is $20-$80 then it is most likely a carapo. $100+ is what it will run you to keep a true tiger. I have one and it is the most stunning fish I have ever kept. The pattern is remarkable and it is no problem to feed. They are well worth the money. What kinds of SA cichlids do you have?
Currently I have a chocolate and red severum in one tank and a JD, EBJD and paratilopia bleekeri in another. Don't have more room currently but in the future I'll be looking at GT, amphilophus Lyonsi and other fish like that as well as my severums and maybe some HRP. Trimac much later down the road too ^.^
Ok cool. Any others that could work well? (Not that I don't like them, I'm just a research maniac and always looking for more info) I remember being told I couldn't get a clown knife back in the day because they got too big and were too mean.
Ha I am the exact same! Clowns personally I am not a fan of. They also do not come from the same habitat as the SA cichlids. But what is you budget? There are some oddballs out there that maybe I can hook you up with and where are you at?
